Solo River Cruise Deals

The single supplement is the cost to beat.

Solo river cruise deals can make more difference to a single traveler than any other special, because the single supplement is often the biggest extra cost of a river cruise for one.

Three Kinds of Solo Offer

OfferHow it worksWatch for
Supplement waivedYou pay the per-person fare for a cabin designed for two.Usually limited to some sailings and categories.
Supplement reducedA lower surcharge than normal.Compare with a waived offer on another line.
Dedicated solo cabinA smaller cabin built for one, with its own fare.Very few per ship; they sell first.

Because ships have so few cabins and lines release solo offers on a handful of sailings at a time, flexibility on dates and river makes the biggest difference. If you have a firm date, ask about solo cabins as early as possible; if you are flexible, watch the offers on Wave Season and Cruising for Less and be ready to move when one fits.

Solo offers are limited to a few cabins per sailing, so timing matters.

Beyond the Supplement

  • Some lines host solo travelers at a welcome gathering or shared table, which can matter as much as price.
  • A slightly higher fare on an all-inclusive line can still cost less in total for one person.
  • Our sister site Singles River Cruises focuses on river cruising alone: ships, company and atmosphere.
  • Travel insurance matters more when no one is travelling with you; see Cruise & Travel Insurance.

Solo River Cruise Deal Questions

What is a single supplement on a river cruise?

River cabins are priced for two. A solo traveler using one pays an extra charge on top of the per-person fare. Solo river cruise deals reduce or waive that charge on selected sailings.

Do river ships have single cabins?

A few ships on some lines have a small number of dedicated solo cabins. They sell quickly, so ask early.

Can I share a cabin with a stranger to avoid the supplement?

Some operators offer a room-share matching program; most river lines do not. Ask our advisors which, if any, do on your sailing.

Comparing Solo Offers Across Lines

To compare solo river cruise deals fairly, ask each line for the total fare for one person in the specific cabin, with the supplement already applied. A waived supplement on a line with higher base fares can still cost more than a reduced supplement on a line with lower ones, and an all-inclusive fare can reverse the result again once drinks and gratuities are counted. As with every special, the total wins.

Timing a Solo Booking

Solo offers tend to be released a handful of sailings at a time, often when a line opens a new season or during the big promotional periods. If you already know the river and month, ask our cruise advisors to check every line that sails it in one go; if you are flexible, tell us the window and the river and we will look for a waived or reduced supplement within it.
