2-for-1 River Cruise Deals
What “second guest free” really measures.
Check a River Cruise Special Free2-for-1 river cruise deals are among the most eye-catching specials in travel advertising. Understanding what the “one” and the “two” refer to is the key to judging them.
What a 2-for-1 Offer Measures
A 2-for-1 or “second guest sails free” offer is calculated from the line’s brochure fare for two people in a cabin. The line then waives or reduces the second person’s cruise fare. The result is a real fare for two — and that is the only number that matters. Whether it is a good deal depends on how it compares with what you would pay for a similar cabin on a similar sailing elsewhere.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is the starting point the brochure fare or a fare people really pay? | A high reference point makes any saving look larger. |
| Which cabin grades does it apply to? | Offers are often limited to some categories. |
| Are taxes and port charges extra for both guests? | They usually are, and they add up. |
| Does it combine with past-guest or group savings? | Sometimes it replaces them instead. |
| Are flights included? | An air-inclusive fare on another line can be better value. |
The Fair Comparison
Line up the fare for two under the 2-for-1 against the fare for two on a comparable line and sailing — same river, similar month, similar cabin — including whatever that line is offering at the time. Then add everything each fare does not include: drinks, gratuities, excursions, transfers, flights. The lower total is the better deal, whatever the headline says.

2-for-1 River Cruise Deal Questions
Does 2-for-1 mean the second person pays nothing?
Rarely in full. It usually means the second guest’s cruise fare is waived or reduced against the line’s brochure fare, while taxes, port charges and anything not in the cruise fare are still paid for both.
Can a solo traveler use a 2-for-1 deal?
Not directly; the offer is built around two people sharing a cabin. Solo travelers should look at single-supplement offers instead.
Are 2-for-1 river cruise deals common in 2027?
Lines use this kind of offer on and off, often on selected sailings or cabin grades. Check the current ones on Wave Season or ask our advisors which 2027 sailings carry them.
When a 2-for-1 Deal Is Genuinely Good
A 2-for-1 river cruise deal is at its best when the line’s ordinary fares are already competitive with its rivals and the offer applies to the cabin grade you wanted anyway. It is weakest when it is attached only to less popular dates or to the lowest-deck cabins, or when the “free” second fare is offset by higher charges elsewhere. The test is always the total for two people for the trip you actually want.
