What each special really means, who it suits, and how to test it before you book.
Check a River Cruise Special FreeRiver Cruise Specials, Explained One at a Time
River cruise specials come in a handful of familiar shapes — two-for-one fares, airfare included, solo offers, promo codes, upgrades and onboard credit — and every one of them is good for some travelers and meaningless for others. Best River Cruising Deals takes each special apart: what it really is, what it is measured against, who it suits, and a simple test you can run before you say yes.
You will not find prices here, or a list of this week’s offers. Those change constantly and live on Wave Season and Cruising for Less. What you will find is the method to judge them — and our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise, who will run the test for you on any special you find.
The one question behind every special
“Compared with what?” A special is always described against something: a brochure fare, a standard single supplement, a cruise-only price. If that reference point is not what you would really have paid, the saving is smaller than it looks. If it is, the special can be excellent value.
- Write down the total cost of the trip with the special.
- Write down the total cost of your best alternative without it.
- Count flights, transfers, drinks, gratuities and hotel nights in both.
- Then decide. Our test a special page walks through it.

| Special | What it is measured against | Usually best for |
|---|---|---|
| 2-for-1 / second guest free | The line’s full brochure fare for two | Couples comparing lines whose fares are normally similar |
| Airfare included or reduced | The cruise-only fare plus flights you would buy yourself | Travelers flying from a major gateway at the line’s set times |

| Free upgrade | The fare for the higher category | Travelers who wanted the better cabin anyway |
| Onboard credit | Money you would spend on board | Lines where extras are not already included |

River Cruise Specials: Quick Answers
What counts as a river cruise special?
Any limited-time offer a line attaches to certain sailings: a second-guest fare, airfare included or reduced, a lower or waived single supplement, an upgrade, onboard credit, a reduced deposit, or added inclusions such as drinks or excursions.
Are river cruise specials genuine?
Usually, yes — but they are measured against the line’s own brochure fare, which may not be what anyone actually pays. The honest test is to compare the total trip cost with the special against the same trip on another line, or on another date without it.
Can I get a special if I book through an advisor?
Yes. Public specials apply whether you book directly or through an advisor, and an advisor may also know about group space or past-guest savings that combine with them.
Where can I see the current specials?
Live offers are gathered on Wave Season and Cruising for Less. We explain them here rather than reprint them, because they change constantly.
Have a Special You Want Checked?
Paste the offer into the quote form with your dates. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise will test it against the alternatives and send free quotes.
